A Beginner’s Guide to Die Cutting

Have you ever wondered how paper crafters get those really cool words or shapes on their projects without stamping?  Welcome to the wonderful world of die cutting!  WARNING: Die cutting is so awesome, so much fun, and so addicting, that it will suck you in and take all your money since you’ll want to buy almost every die in existence.

Okay, you’ve been warned.  Proceed at your own peril!!  In the video I’ve posted below, you’ll find a very beginning introductory guide to die cutting.  There are so many machines and dies on the market, that it would be impossible to show you even a reasonable fraction, so I’m just including one machine and two dies, just to get you started.  I personally own three machines (don’t judge me!) and a number of dies so large, that I’m sure my sanity would be brought into question if we ever counted them!

As always, here’s pictures of the projects that I made in the video.  The first card is one I showed you in my last blog post.  I’m featuring it again to highlight the die cut portion of the card, since it was shown in the video.

Fun ways to use a guillotine paper trimmer

The next two cards show how you can die cut the panel made out of paper strips, into a word!  I used a purple background with a black shadow layer, and made a rainbow “Smile!”

In the last example, I see power and drama in using the black background with just one beautiful pop of rainbow colors in the shadow part of the die.

Thanks for stopping by today and taking the time to spend with me!  I would love for you to leave a comment and let me know if you have any experience with die cutting.  Are you a newbie?  Or an addict like me?  Or somewhere in between?  Have an amazing day!  See you soon!
