How to Make your Cardstock Last Longer!

It’s pathetic really…I have an INCREDIBLE amount of
cardstock.  I don’t mean like 6 or 8
stacks.  I mean like enough to open a
store!   Or so it feels that way some
days!  That being said, I REALLY don’t
need to be worrying about how to conserve it or figuring out how to use every
last scrap, but that’s just who we are as papercrafters.  We’re a frugal animal who wants to get the
best deals and make everything stretch.
In that spirit, here’s today’s Money-Saving Monday tip!

A few weeks ago, I made a black and grey double page scrapbook layout for a challenge, and as I was working on it, I thought I would snap some pics and share a little tip with you.

I used a simple shape from the Silhouette store and blew it up to fit nicely on a 12 x 12 piece of cardstock.  I just happened to use double sided cardstock.

I was planning to put the grey shape on top of a black and white piece of cardstock.  I sat there and thought about how I was almost completely covering up the piece of black cardstock and what a waste that was…so what did I do?

I made my shape a little smaller and cut it again out of the black cardstock, making sure to center the cut on the page before cutting. (and making sure to give myself enough of a border area to be able to use adhesive to adhere to two pieces together.)

When I was done cutting both pages, I put the grey paper on top of the black one, and viola, you can’t tell the black page has a big hole in the center!

Now, I’m left with a grey frame to use in the future….

…and a smaller inner piece (I turned this one over so you’re seeing the pattern on the back side) to use in the future.  I just can’t waste cardstock although sometimes I wish I could…you should see my stash of scraps!

So…how bad is your scrap stash?!!?

Happy Scrapping!
