My Girl – Geometric Scrapbook Layout

When my daughter was born, the song by The Temptations
called My Girl popped into my
head.  Every time I look at her, I
started singing it.  It became a staple
in our house.  We would sing it at
birthdays.  We would sing it just because.
We sang it when she graduated from high
school and college on the same day, and I’m sure this summer we will be dancing to
it at her wedding.  Click on the video
below to get you in the mood!

This week at the MFP Speedy TV Color Challenge,  we’re using pink, red and purple.  Since Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, these are the perfect colors for us to play

I had a 5 x 7 image of my daughter taken years ago when she
was a sophomore in high school, that I wanted to highlight on my layout.  I decided to go geometric, cutting equal
sized strips of paper for visual interest.

I did a lot of stamping on this layout, using three different sets.
I used the word “love” from the Lotus Blossoms stamp set.  I used a watermarking technique with VersaMark
ink to stamp the word over and over again onto one of my pink strips of card
stock.  I used Quick Quotes chalking ink
in maraschino cherry to stamp the word, “love” one time so that it would stand out
from all the others.

I used a different “love” sentiment from the Love Remains stamp set to stamp the sides of the background paper.  Once again I used VersaMark ink and the
watermarking technique.

Finally, I took four 2″ x 11″ strips of card stock
alternating pink and red, and laid them right next to each other.  I used the Huge Blossoms stamp set to
randomly stamp the flower image onto the strips.  Then I separated each strip and mounted it
onto the layout.  I added two more strips
of card stock in black and red that I hand-cut little banner ends on. I matted the photo of my sweet daughter on black
card stock.  With some purple bling and
the title, my layout is complete.  I just
need to do a little journaling on the pink card stock strip underneath the
