Mark’s Finest Paper Scrapbook Challenge

Yay, it’s Thursday…almost time for the weekend!  I hope all of you in the freezing parts of the U.S. are staying warm. It’s been SO COLD here, and I know it’s been way worse in other states.   At least it’s starting to feel like Christmas. Can you believe it’s less than three weeks til Christmas?!?  This weekend will come in handy to get caught up a little…time to wrap presents, bake cookies, finish decorating…there’s so much to do!!

Thursday also means it’s time for another Scrapbook challenge at MFP Speedy TV.  The theme this week is ANYTHING GOES!  Since I’ve been freezing my tushie off the past few days, I thought I would bring a little feeling of spring into my layout this week.

I found some cute pics of hubby, daughter and future son-in-law from a few summers ago and thought the colors would match perfectly with the background page I made.

This week, I tried an entirely new technique.  First, I chose my fave stamp set from the new release this month, Butterfly Essence.  LOVE that set!  I really like using background stamps to make my own patterned paper, and this new set fits the bill perfectly

Next, I used some Gelatos by Faber Castell to actually color directly onto my stamp.  I used different colors on different sections of the stamp, and then misted a little water on right before I stamped the image onto white cardstock.  That gave it a very dreamy watercolor effect.  After I covered the entire page with the stamp, I let it dry completely and then went back to color in the butterflies and any other white spots on the page.  It took several hours to do this, but it was fun!  I felt like a kid with a coloring book!

It turned out a little brighter than I expected, so next time I might put an antique colored wash over the whole thing to tone it down…but the colors worked with my photos and I didn’t want to take a chance of ruining the page after all the time I spent on it!  Next time!

I hope you’ll consider joining us this week.  You have until next Wednesday at 5 pm PST to link up.  See you there!

Happy Scrapping!
