Smoking Hot Deals This Weekend For Veteran’s Day

As we start getting ramped up for Black Friday and the Christmas shopping season here in the US, stores are starting to bait us with some great deals to get us in the shopping mood.  Here’s a few awesome deals happening at Joann’s and Michael’s Craft Stores this weekend.  This old coupon queen’s trick?  Combine a coupon with a sale when you can…it can add up to massive savings!

I started to go into some of the math involved in figuring up your savings, but I thought that might be a quick way to shut some of you down real fast!  So instead, I’ll do the math for you, and if you’re curious how I arrived at some of the numbers I did, I’ll have a mathematical explanation at the bottom of this post.

Joann’s has pretty much all of their scrapbooking supplies on sale this weekend for “up to 40% off.”   This includes, “Embellishments, stickers, stamps, paper & more.”  It also includes paper crafting tools, stamps, and stamp pads.

So if the items you choose this weekend are 40% and you use the additional 25% off your total purchase coupon (valid through Monday November 12, 2012)  you’ll be saving a total of 55% percent off your item or items!  Not a bad time to stock up on some goodies!!

When I looked online, it also showed DCWV stacks  sale priced at $9.99.  If you don’t find that same deal at your local Joanns, you can ask them to price match their online sale, and they’re usually great about doing so.  Once you add your 25% off coupon, you’ll be scoring stacks for only $7.49 each.  That’s my stock up price!

Joann’s also has a coupon for 60% off any one regular priced item this weekend (if you can find something that’s not on sale!!)

Michaels also has a 25% off your total purchase coupon this weekend.  I was having trouble posting their coupons, but you can find them HERE.  The sales at Michaels change on Sunday, so I’ll list the noteworthy items for Saturday first.

Saturday November 10, 2012:

Open stock scrapbooking paper 6 sheets for $1.  (regularly $.59 each.  With coupon, 6 sheets for $.75 or $.13 cents each!)

Studio G cardmaking supplies 15 for $10 (or $.75 EACH.  With coupon they will be 15 for $7.50 or $.50 each.)

Tombow paper crafting adhesives 30% off.  (with coupon added, they will be 47% off.)

Below, we’re going to be talking about the kind of coupons that give you 25% off your total purchase including sale prices.  We’re also going to be talking about sales that are 40% – 50% off the normal prices of items.  Now, the common misconception is that if you get a “widget” sale priced at 50% off and then also use a 25% off coupon, that your widget will be a total of 75% off (50 + 25 =75) However, that’s not the way the stores figure it up, and if you go in expecting that kind of deal, you’re going to be leaving feeling a little bummed.

When you take your $10 widget (that’s on sale for 50% off) up to the counter, it will ring up at $5.  Then you hand the clerk your 25% off coupon, and she will then take 25% off of what you OWE…that means 25% of $5…not the original $10 price.  This means the clerk will take an additional $1.25 off bringing your total to $3.75.   That’s a total savings of a little more than 62%.  It’s not as good as the 75% you may have thought you would get, but 62% off an item is certainly nothing to sneeze at!

So if the sales price is 30%  off with the 25% coupon, your total savings is 47% off.

40% off plus coupon, equal 55% off.

50% off plus coupon, equals 62% off
